Hi, my name is Katya Demeshkina, and Ideal Dessert is my business based in Southampton, U.K.. Here’s a little background story how it began.

Anyone who knows me, understands that I am a very competitive person. As a result, I decided to enter an annual charity cake baking competition hosted by my employers in 2014. I had never baked anything previously, and so armed with a cake recipe from my mother, I baked my first cake. I really enjoyed it, and was so proud of myself, but didn’t win.

After a second attempt only coming 2nd or 3rd the following year, my determination paid dividends on the third attempt. That year I researched the cake I wanted to make, and then practiced making it repeatedly before the competition, and that year I won first prize!

I so enjoyed what I was doing, I went on to complete three online baking school courses, and went on to win the work competition three years in a row! This gave me such a passion for baking I just couldn’t stop, and found no shortage of friends and work colleagues to test my cakes out upon.

Since the Covid lockdown I have spent the majority of time on furlough from work, which has given me ample time to focus on turning my favourite hobby into an actual business. I have a growing customer base for which I am extremely grateful, and have received some fantastic feedback from those I have served.
